Gordon Soundscape Sound Map

2005

Commissioned by:

Gordon Forum for the Arts (funded by Aberdeenshire Council/Scottish Arts Council)

Gordon Soundscape is an attempt to map the sonic diversity of the former Gordon District in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The project also comprises the acousmatic/soundscape concert pieces Still Voices, Fields of Silence, the Gordon Soundscape Sound Map and the sound documentary/installation Resound.

The Gordon Soundscape Sound Map consists of sounds recorded in 30 locations around the former Gordon District in Aberdeenshire. This was the result of a call in the local press and via social media for sounds which had a particular relevance to people, in particular, sound which were threatened or about to disappear. I went to these locations and made recordings which can be accessed via the sound map.
